Wieuca

Wieuca is a colorful experimental rock band originally from Athens, GA and now mostly Atlanta. These days, Wieuca is known as a legacy act, resting on their laurels while enmeshed in costly legal battles against the University of Georgia as well as one other. Back in the day, though, they were better known for their heady mix of indie, post-hardcore and Southern Gothic influences, to the extent that they were known at all. They modeled themselves after prolific 90’s lofi acts like Guided By Voices, with over 40 releases to date. With blistering guitars and glitchy electronics, Wieuca’s sprawling output was a futuristic and aggressive take on 90’s oddball favorites, finding creative and often bizarre ways to bridge disparate subgenres and play with their tropes. But that was long ago….
