The Athens Music and Arts Festival is a highly acclaimed event held annually in historic downtown Athens, GA, a town long renowned for its thriving music scene. For the past 15 years, AthFest has used the festival to showcase the best in regionally and nationally recognized Athens-based talent.
This year, over 150 bands and artists performed on three outdoor stages and in over a dozen of the town’s best music venues. The outdoor stages are all ages and free of charge.
Besides the musical offerings there is also a free Artists Market that has around 50 local and regional sculptors, painters, weavers, and other visual artists. There is also a kid and family friendly area called KidsFest that has free hands-on arts activities for children and free performances by local adult musicians playing specifically for kids.
To round things out there are also local filmmaker showcases at Ciné organized by Film:Athens and the Flagpole Magazine Athens Music Awards at the historic Morton Theater. Featuring over 150 bands in over 15 venues, 3 FREE outdoor stages, a club crawl, artists’ market, film screenings, kids fest and more! Outdoor stage headliners for 2012 included Atlas Sound, Reptar, Elf Power, The Glands and Yacht Rock Revue!
