AthFest Educates! Donates Violins to UGA String Project

ATHENS, GA (May 8, 2012)— AthFest Educates!, a year-round effort to share Athensʼ rich musical heritage with local students, recently donated 15 violins to the UGA String Project. AthFest Educates!ʼs support of the UGA String Project began last year when the program donated fourteen violins and cellos to establish a permanent lending library.

The UGA String Project provides its students with a unique opportunity for musical enjoyment and education through the study of string instruments. Participants include 2nd to 5th grade students in the Athens Area who do not have access to an orchestra program in their own school.

“The violins most recently donated came as the result of a $5000 grant from AthFest Educates!. The violins are specially built student violins purchased through Ronald Sachs Violins, and are created to give a beautiful sound for each and everyone who plays them, from the beginner to the most experienced violinist.”

AthFest Director Jared Bailey presented the funds to UGA String project director Dr. Skip Taylor and Ronald Sachs in an intimate ceremony (photos attached). Each violin bears a plaque that states “donated by AthFest Educates!”.

“Putting instruments into the hands of the children who participate in the UGA String Project is exactly the type of activity that AthFest Educates! continues to undertake in order bring music to the children of our area,” said Jared Bailey.

AthFest Wristbands Early-Bird Sale

From everyone here at AthFest, we are proud to announce that our 2012 AthFest Festival wristbands are currently on sale through AthensMusic.net. We have set up an early-bird price, so grab yours before the price bumps up in a few weeks. Every year, we offer a ton of free music on the outdoor stages, but a huge part of the fun happens after the sun sets, in the downtown clubs.

Our club crawl features hundreds of bands at a ton of venues across town, and you can have access to all of it for one low price. A change to the club crawl this year is that our 3 main venues will be WRISTBAND-ONLY. Georgia Theatre, 40 Watt, and The Melting Point will all require an AthFest wristband to enter on Friday and Saturday of AthFest weekend. As always, all shows are subject to age and capacity restrictions. (Does anyone remember last year when the 40 Watt was so popular The band could barely get into the club??)

We expect more great response for the shows lined up at the venues this year, so make sure you have your wristband so you don’t miss out!

Available ONLINE, currently for only $17.
